Abstract
PURPOSE: To continuously perform the melting of a raw material and vacuum- degassing of the molten metal by establishing a specific relation between the depth of the outlet end of an introducing pipe submerged in the molten metal in a vacuum chamber and the gauge pressure in the vacuum chamber. CONSTITUTION: In a vacuum chamber 3, a holding container 5 which contains a molten metal melted in a melting chamber 1 is provided and a heating means 6 is arranged around the container 5. A relation P/γ+h=Po/γ (where, γ and Po respectively represent the specific weight and gauge pressure in the melting chamber 1) is established between the depth (h) of the outlet end of an introducing pipe 2 for introducing the molten metal to the container 5 and the gauge pressure P in the vacuum chamber 3. In the melting chamber 1, a raw material is melted after the material is held by a carbon seal 4 and the molten metal overflows the chamber 1 and is continuously introduced to the container 5 through the introducing pipe 2. In the container 5, the molten metal is vacuum- degassed without allowing the gas in the melting chamber 1 to blow into the container 5. Therefore, the melting of a raw material and the vacuum-degassing of the molten metal can be performed continuously.
