Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title antistatic agent which is excellent in heat resistance and can give a good antistatic property small in humidity dependency, by using a specified phosphonium sulfonate as an essential component. CONSTITUTION:An organosulfonic acid metal salt or ammonium salt [e.g., POE (10mol.) nonylphenyl sulfoacetate derivative] is mixed with a quat. phosphonium salt (e.g., tetrabutylphosphonium salt) in a solvent, and the inorganic salts formed as by-products are separated by washing with water or extracted with an organic solvent such as methanol, isopropanol or acetone to obtain a phosphonium sulfonate of formula I, wherein R<1-4> are each a (substituted) 1-18C hydrocarbon group, Z<1> is a 1-24C aliphatic or alicyclic hydrocarbon group or a group of formula II {wherein R<5> is a 1-24C aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic hydrocarbon group or a (1-18C hydrocarbon group- substituted) aromatic hydrocarbon group, R<6> is a 2-4C alkylene, and n is 1-20, Z<2> is H or a group of formula III (wherein R<7> is H or a 1-18C aliphatic hydrocarbon group, Z<3> is a 1-24C aliphatic or alicyclic hydrocarbon group or a group of formula II). This compound is used as an essential component to obtain the title antistatic agent.
