Abstract

PURPOSE:To lessen the possibility in which measuring errors are produced with facilitated maintenance and work efficiency being heightened by measuring a neutron absorber arranged between a fuel assembly and a thermal neutron detector by approaching and separating the fuel assembly. CONSTITUTION:A thermal neutron detector 2 is arranged at a fixed interval (preferably 10mm or more) in the side of a fuel assembly 1 arranged in water. Further, a thermal neutron absorbing plate 3 is arranged between the fuel assembly 1 and the detector 2. An absorbing plate 3 is measured by the detector 2 with the distance X1 from the surface of the fuel assembly 1 being approached and the distance X2 being separated. The distance X1 is set within about 1cm and the distance X2 is set at 3-5cm. In the case where the absorbing plate 3 is separated from the fuel assembly 1 and approaches the detector 2, the distance between the surface of the absorbing plate 3 and the detector 2 is 3cm or more, preferably 5cm or more. When the detector 2 is arranged so as to set the distance c up to thermal neutron dispersion distance, neutron counting ratio is overestimated and therefore effective multiplication rate is underestimated.
