Abstract
PURPOSE: To utilize a melting facility at low investment cost for charging material and energy source by providing a preheater having, on the bottom thereof, an opening/closing iron grille for passing high temperature exhaust gas produced in a furnace chamber body during melting process upward, and a drive means for opening/closing the iron grille. CONSTITUTION: A preheater 27 for preheating a substance being charged into a melting/refining facility is disposed above a furnace chamber body 22. Floor part of the preheater 27 is divided into two iron grille parts 30, 31 of same structure being moved inward and outward by means of a hydraulic cylinder 32. Iron scrap charged into the furnace chamber is held on the inside of each iron grille and preheated at a desired temperature by high temperature exhaust gas produced in the furnace chamber body during melting process. The iron scrap preheated at 800-1000 deg.C charged into the furnace chamber by retracting the iron grille parts 30, 31 through action of the hydraulic cylinder 32 thus saving energy required for preheating the iron scrap.
