Abstract

PURPOSE:To attempt an improvement in ignition performance by so injecting fuel as to meet each suction stroke at the time of engine start. CONSTITUTION:The top face of a piston 4 is formed with a cavity 6 in such a way as to inject fuel F to the inner wall surface of the cavity 6 from a fuel injection valve 8 at the time of compression stroke for letting fuel evaporated from the wall surface be ignited by an ignition plug 7. Fuel is so injected as to meet each suction stroke at the time of engine start. Since starting timing for injection is accelerated, injected fuel F is sufficiently evaporated from the wall surface until compression is processed upto a top dead center, thereby enabling ignition at the time of starting to be much improved.
