Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect an abnormal condition and avoid wasting a recording medium, by providing a stacking means for a plurality of recorded recording mediums, a means for detecting an abnormality in image formation on the recording mediums, and a means for counting the number of occurrence of abnormality. CONSTITUTION:A sensor 3 detects an abnormal feeding such as multiple paper feeding or skewing of a paper on a feeding passage 2. When there is no abnormal condition, printing is conducted on the paper, and an instruction is sent to a branching mechanism 7 to branch the printed paper to a first paper stacking part 8, at which normally outputted papers are stacked. When an abnormal feeding is detected by the sensor 3, a waiting operation is conducted for a period of time corresponding to printing on one page, without carrying out a printing operation, so as to avoid wasting a toner. An instruction is sent to the branching mechanism 7 to send the relevant paper to a second paper stacking part 9. An abnormality counter 14 is supplied with the number of occurrences of abnormal feeding, and when the count reaches a predetermined value, printing is stopped, and the operator is called to prevent the papers in the abnormal condition from being successively discharged. When the count on the counter 14 is small, printing is continued, and reprinting is conducted for the pages which could not be printed due to the abnormal feeding.
