Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce the title compound which is used as a starting substance for resin excellent in resistances to heat, water and weather, in high yield in a short time, by hydrogenating a fluorine-containing aromatic diol which is formed by addition reaction of hexafluoracetone to an aromatic compound. CONSTITUTION:A fluorine-containing aromatic diol of formula I (Ph is divalent organic group having at least one of aromatic group) such as bis(1,1,1,3,3,3- hexafluoro-2-hydroxyisopropyl)benzene is hydrogenated in the presence of a catalyst, especially effective in use of a rhodium catalyst, to give a fluorine- containing alicyclic diol of formula III [Ph (H) is divalent organic group having at least one of perhydroaromatic group] such as bis(1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2- hydroxyisopropyl)cyclohexane. The product is useful as a starting substance for epoxy resins, polyurethane resins, polyester resins, or the like.
