Abstract

1,2.5,6-diepoxycyclododecane may be used as a plasticizer for halogenated vinyl resins. It may also be used for the preparation of resinous products by reaction with bifunctional organic compounds such as diamines, dialdehydes, dicarboxylic acids, and diols. Nonvicinal cyclododecane diols, obtained by hydrogenation of the diepoxy compound, may be condensed with saturated or unsaturated aliphatic or aromatic diacids so as to obtain linear polyesters, or they may be reacted with di-isocyanates to form polyurethanes.ALSO:The invention comprises 1 : 2 : 5 : 6-diepoxycyclododecane, which is produced by hydrogenating 1 : 2 : 5 : 6-diepoxycyclododeca-9-ene, e.g. at 15-30 DEG C. and 2-50 kg/cm2 in presence of Raney nickel. Continuing the hydrogenation at 50-150 DEG C. and 10-100 kg/cm2 gives the corresponding p non-vicinal (1 : 4-, 1 : 5- and 1 : 6-) cyclododecanediols; specifically, a diol mixture of m.p. 99-100 DEG C. is obtained, which with phenylisocyanate gives a phenylurethane m.p. 210-211 DEG C.
