Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent an unnecessary input at the time of setting characters by specifying the type of characters which are set by a character code input means, using an identification means, calculating the number of remaining characters by the type of character with an arithmetic and logic operation part and displaying the number of the remaining characters which can be set after storing the calculated numbers of the remaining characters in a storage part. CONSTITUTION:When data is entered into a character code input means 9, character codes entered by a character type identification means 11 are identified, and the number N of dots of characters entered is calculated to determine whether the maximum number of dots which can be set has been reached. If the number is exceeded, that signifies an error. If the number is not reaches, the number N of dots is to be added to the number of dots which is already set and the obtained sum is to be stored in a storage part for the number of dots which is already set. Then the number of dots which is already set is subtracted from the maximum number of dots which can be set to seek the number of remaining dots to be set. After this, this obtained number of remaining characters which can be set is divided by the number of dots required for a single character to obtain the number of remaining characters which can be set. This number is stored in a storage part 15 for the number of remaining characters which can be set. The contents of the storage part 15 are shown on a display part 8 with the contents of a storage part 14 for characters codes which are already set. Subsequently, an unnecessary input during the setting of characters can be eliminated.
