Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fiber of high strength, having significantly high light resistance, through such a process that a dope is prepared by dissolving the raw polymer in concentrated sulfuric acid dispersed with carbon particles to contain specified proportion of the carbon particles with specific size in the final fiber. CONSTITUTION:First, an optically anisotropic dope is prepared by dissolving a poly-p-phenylene terephthalamide polymer as the raw material in 95-101% conc. sulfuric acid dispersed with carbon particles having an average size of 10-50mmu in a proportion of 0.1-10wt.% so that the polymer concentration be >=15wt.%. Thence, this dope is extruded through a spinneret, being passed through an air followed by introduction into a coagulating bath. Finally, the resulting coagulated yarn drawn from the bath is washed with water followed by drying, thus obtaining the objective fiber.
