Abstract

PURPOSE: A solution of acrylic copolymer having a certain range of relative viscosity and hydrophilic group content is wet spun into fiber of specific filament denier to inhibit the formation of voids and produce the titled fiber used for suede-like chlothes in high productivity with simple devices.
CONSTITUTION: An acrylic copolymer of 0.160W0.195 relative viscosity (measured by dissolving 0.5g polymer in 100ml dimethylformamide and keeping it at 30°C) and of 0.2W0.6×10-5 eqmol/g hydryphilic group content (sulfonic acid group) such as acrylontrile-vinyl acetate-sodium methallylsulfonate terpolymer is dissolved in a solvent such as dimethylacetamide. Then, the solution is extruded through a spinneret into a coagulation bath to effect wet spinning to produce the objective extremely fine fiber of 0.06W0.4 denier filament thickness. Preferably, the viscosity of the dope is 25W70 poise and the fiber bundle, after spinning, is drawn at a draw ration of 1.5W2.5 at 175W185°C.
