Abstract

PURPOSE:To stabilize the operation of a fuel cell for a long time by individually, uniformly supplying an electrolyte according to the operation state of the cell into each matrix substrate from the outside in a unit cell or a block cell obtained by stacking the specified number of unit cells. CONSTITUTION:An electrolyte distributing container 18 is installed within an upper gas header 8 outside a cell in each unit cell comprising a fuel electrode 1-1, an oxidizing electrode 2-1, and an electrolyte matrix substrate 3-1, or in each block cell obtained by stacking the specified number of unit cells. The operating state of the cell is detected with a cell performance detector by using, for example, open circuit voltage as a target, and an appropriate amount of electrolyte corresponding to the output of the cell is supplied to each matrix substrate with an electrolyte supply instruction unit. The electrolyte is individually supplied to each matrix through the electrolyte distributing container 8, an electrolyte reservoir 20, and an electrolyte supply pipe 24. Since the electrolyte is uniformly replenished, the fuel cell is steadily operated for a long time.
