Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce NOx discharge by setting a feedback control constant in the fuel increment direction to be a large value at a driving area where NOx content in the exhaust is high, in a device which controls an air-fuel ratio on the basis of output of an oxygen sensor with a NOx reducing catalyzer. CONSTITUTION:In an exhaust passage 12 of an internal combustion engine 11, there is provided with an oxygen sensor 19 which detects an air-fuel ratio of mixture after detecting exhaust oxygen content, while three-way catalyst 20 is installed at the downstream side. As for the oxygen 19, such a structural one that installs a platinum catalytic layer (catalytic odixation layer) 4, a NOx reducing catalytic layer 5 and a protective layer 6 successively on an outer surface of a ceramic tube 1 provided with each of electrodes 2, 3 on both inner and outer surfaces is used. A fuel injection valve 15 is controlled by a control unit 16 on the basis of output of the oxygen sensor 19, and when air-fuel feedback control takes place, a feedback control constant in the fuel increment direction is made larger than that in the decrement direction in a driving area where NOx content in the exhaust is high.
