Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a titled steel sheet having an excellent iron loss characteristic by removing the surface oxide layer of a grain oriented silicon steel sheet subjected to the final finish annealing, then subjecting the steel sheet to a smoothing treatment by chemical polishing with a phosphoric acid soln. and electrolytic treatment with a water soluble chloride soln. CONSTITUTION:The oxide layer on the surface of the grain oriented silicon steel sheet subjected to the final finish annealing is removed by a pickling treatment. The surface of the steel sheet is then polished to about >=1mu by the chemical polishing (about 150-180 deg.C) using the phosphoric acid soln. or the electrolytic polishing (about 30-100 deg.C, about 10-200A/dm<2>). The steel sheet is then subjected to the electrolytic treatment by using the water soluble chloride (NaCl, KCl, NH4Cl, CaCl2, etc.) at about 30-100 deg.C treatment temp. and about 10-200A/dm<2> current density, by which the surface is polished by about 0.1-0.8mu per face of the steel sheet and the phosphoric acid metal film is removed. The surface of the steel sheet is thereby effectively smoothed and the grain oriented silicon steel sheet having the excellent iron loss characteristic is stably obtd.
