Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove the scale of an alloy steel around the weld zones formed particularly during execution of welding effectively by connecting the alloy steel to be treated directly to an anode, and bringing the same into contact with a water stagnating material which is interposed between the same and a cathode of a conductive material and is impregnated with an aq. electrolyte of phosphate and glycerol thereby electrolytically polishing the same.
CONSTITUTION: An electrolyte consisting of an aq. soln. compounded with ≥0.5% Na-, K- or NH4 saet of phosphoric acid and <40% glycerol is prepd. On the other hand, alloy steel (e.g.; SUS 430) of a material to br descaled is connected to an anode of a DC power source, and a water stagnating material (e.g.; non- woven PP fabric) impregnated with the above-described electrolyte is interposed between the same and a cathode consisting of a conductive material such as graphite. Next, said water stagnating material and the alloy steel to be treated are brought into direct contact with each other, and said steel is electrolytically polished, whereby scale is thoroughly removed at oridinary temp. Without any heating at all. The metallic surface after the treatment is beautifully finished, and besides it is thoroughly passivated, for which post treatment stages by nitric acid, hydrofluoric acid, etc. are not required.
