Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the luminous efficiency by covering the back faces and both sides of multiple light source electroluminescence(EL) pixels having luminous layers with electrodes and connecting the electrodes of the EL pixels to the electrodes of a substrate. CONSTITUTION:EL pixels 20 are mounted on a ceramic substrate 25 while the first electrode 24 is closely stuck to a conductor 26, the back faces and both sides of the EL pixels 20 are covered by the second electrode 27 made of a metal thin film in this mounting state. This second electrode 27 serves as a common electrode and integrally and continuously covers the EL pixels 20 and concurrently covers the upper face of the ceramic substrate 25. This first electrode 24 is connected to the bottom face of the ceramic substrate 25 via a substrate electrode 28 in contact with the lower end of the conductor 26 and a power source 29, and the high electric field applied to the luminous layers 23 of the EL pixels 20 is obtained. The luminous efficiency is thereby improved.
