Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent under or over charging, by measuring open circuit voltage prior to start of charging of a battery and judging whether the battery is an inactive battery or not, then providing a predetermined delay time for measurement of battery voltage only when an inactive battery is charged and carrying out charge ending control through battery voltage. CONSTITUTION:Upon provision of a charge start signal, a microcomputor 4 measures open circuit voltage of a battery 2 to be charged through an A/D converter 5. Then the open circuit voltage is compared with a preset reference voltage for identifying an inactive battery so as to judge whether a regular battery is charged or an inactive battery is charged. When a regular battery is charged, the microcomputor 4 sets delay time for detecting charge control battery voltage to 0 while sets the delay time to a predetermined time when an inactive battery is charged. Thereafter, the microcomputor 4 closes a charging switch 3 to start charging then carries out counting during preset delay time, and upon finish of counting, executes charge control judgement routine for controlling finish of charge based on the battery voltage measured through the A/D converter 5.
