Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal blind with which the quantity of transmitted light can be set as desired and which can be easily made into a large area and reduced in weight by providing a ferroelectric high-polymer liquid crystal molding between two sheets of substrates having polarizing layers and transparent electrode layers and varying the voltage to be impressed thereto. CONSTITUTION:The polarizing layers 2 are formed on one face of either or both of two sheets of the transparent substrates 1a, 1b and the transparent electrode layers 3 are formed on the other face of the respective substrates. The variable voltage is impressed by the transparent electrode layers 3 to the ferroelectric high-polymer liquid crystal molding 4 which is held in place between two sheets of the substrates 1a and 1b. The ferroelectric high-polymer liquid crystal molding 4 formed in such a manner has the property to change the transmission quantity of light by the magnitude and code of the voltage to be impressed thereto. Namely, the quantity of the light transmitted through the ferroelectric high-polymer liquid crystal molding 4 or the transmission direction of the light changes according to the variable voltage or the polarity thereof when said voltage is impressed to the ferroelectric high-polymer liquid crystal molding 4 and, therefore, the quantity of the transmitted light can be adjusted as desired. The useful liquid crystal blind which can be easily produced, increased in size and reduced in size is thereby obtd.
