Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the contamination of a transfer material and the deterioration of a picture quality caused by a mold release agent by eliminating a transfer material non-passing part generated due to a difference of a dimension of a passing transfer material. CONSTITUTION:When it is detected by a detecting means that width of a transfer material is widened, a solenoid 5c is turned off and a felt member 5a is pressed against the surface of a fixing roller 1, the felt member 5a is allowed to abut on the fixing roller 1 at least for the time exceeding a one-rotation portion of the roller 1, and thereafter, the solenoid 5c is turned on and the felt member 5a is separated from the fixing roller 1, and thereafter, the transfer material of wide width is advanced to a nip part N. Accordingly, the part to which silicone oil is adhered because it become a non-feed paper part at the time of using a transfer material of narrow width in the previous image forming work is brought to cleaning by the felt member 5a before becoming a feed paper part in order that its part allows the transfer material of wide width to pass through. In such a way, a satisfactory fixing function can always be obtained irrespective of a dimension difference of the transfer material.
