PURPOSE:To ensure the stable running of an ink ribbon even if a cassette case is used reverse, by providing a back-tension applying means between a supply- side reel and a head inserting part into which a thermal transfer head is to be inserted. CONSTITUTION:When an ink ribbon 22 is running while being taken up by a take-up side reel 24, a supply-side plate spring 41 applies a back-tension in a reverse-running direction by pressing the ink ribbon 22 against the inner wall of a cassette case 21. When the cassette case 21 is ejected out of a thermal transfer printer, reversed, and loaded again on the thermal transfer printer, while a plate spring 40 is in turn located on a supply side to apply a back- tension. Since both the plate springs 40, 41 are longitudinally symmetrically installed in the cassette case 21, the ink ribbon 22 is to be similarly applied with the back-tension even if being reversely run with the cassette case 21 reversed. In this manner, the stable running of the ink ribbon 22 is ensured.
