Abstract
PURPOSE: To accelerate the germination of seeds and to obtain the seeds having a high germinating rate and germinating energy by at least partially removing hard pericarps by polishing without damaging the inside of the seed. CONSTITUTION: A husking type seed polishing machine 11 is provided with a cylindrical rotating roll 15 having a polishing treatment element layer 17 on its outside surface and a passage forming member 18 for forming annular passage 20 to permit the passage of the seeds on the outside surface of the polishing treatment element layer 17 and a cooling means 25 for preventing the heat generation of the seeds 1 passing the passage 20. Further, one end of the passage 20 is provided with a seed feed port 21 and the other end side with a seed recovery port 22 respectively. While the rotating roll 15 is rotated at a preset speed, the seeds 1 of morning glories, etc. are passed through the passage 20 from the seed feed port 21 and are delivered to the seed recover port 22. The hard pericarps 7 of the seeds are thus at least partly removed by polishing without the generation of the heat during the passage through the passage 20. Consequently, the germination of the seeds is accelerated and the seed having the high germinating rate and germinating energy are obtd.
