Abstract
PURPOSE:To realize miniaturization without losing a directional characteristic, by constituting a dielectric mechanism of a slowwave element consisting of a dielectric plate and a radome at the front of an electromagnetic horn. CONSTITUTION:By placing the dielectric plate 5 with sufficient thin plate thickness for a wavelength at the center front plane of an aperture part enclosed with the both ends of the electromagnetic horn constituted of a reflecting plate 4, the dielectric plate 5 functions as a dielectric plate line, and a part of an electromagnetic wave radiated from an aperture is radiated from the tip of the dielectric plate 5. The dielectric constant and the plate thickness of the dielectric plate 5 are related to the concentricity of an electric field in the propagation mode of the dielectric line, and by selecting both values appropriately, a slow-wave effect in a direction along the dielectric plate 5 is generated in the electromagnetic wave, and a beam can be stopped setting the dielectric plate 5 at the center front plane of the aperture. Also, the radome 6 is a covering member, however, by using the radome with appropriate thin thickness compared with the wavelength, the radome can be provided with a function to heighten the slow-wave effect.
