Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten the time until a burst optical output is stabilized by increasing the bias currents of a semiconductor laser only for a fixed time at the rise time of an optical output from the semiconductor laser. CONSTITUTION:When a burst demand signal is transmitted over a current control section 10, a control signal is output, a switch S2 is closed, and a capacitor 5 is supplied with charging currents from a current source 6. The capacitor 5 is supplied with charging currents from a current source 7 at the same time, and the bias currents of a semiconductor laser (LD) 1 suddenly rise. A capacitor 104 is charged by a time constant with a resistor 102 in a current control section 10 under the state. When the charging voltage reaches a set value by a reference power 105, a current changeover signal is output through an output terminal 107 from a comparator 106. A switch S3 is closed by the current changeover signal, the charging of the capacitor 5 by the current source 7 is stopped, and only charging by the current source 6 is used. Accordingly, the increase of the bias currents of the LD1 is reduced.
