Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove noises from the bead surfaces of the weld reinforcement parts of a fillet weld zone or butt weld zone by setting an effective flaw detection range in a section perpendicular to a weld line preliminarily and storing the position of a reflection point as defect data only when the position is within the effective flaw detection range. CONSTITUTION:The effective flaw detection range in the section perpendicular to the weld line is set preliminarily by a computer 10 according to various elements regarding welding. When the reflected wave of an ultrasonic wave sent out of a probe 4 applied to the surface of a material to be welded is received, the computer 10 calculates the position of the reflection point in the section perpendicular to the weld line from the angle theta of refraction of the probe 4, the acoustic velocity (v) in materials 1 and 2 to be welded, and the propagation time (t) of the ultrasonic wave in the materials to be welded, and stores the position as the defect data only when the position is within the effective flaw detection range. Noises can be removed from the bead surfaces of the weld reinforcement part of the fillet weld zone and butt weld zone with this constitution.
