Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the error of reproducing or recording by detecting the absolute value of an error signal before the loop of a focusing servo is closed and generating the error signal when the absolute value exceeds a prescribed reference value. CONSTITUTION:A focusing error VX in an image-forming optical system 3 of a light pickup to read information from the recording surface of an optical disk 1 is detected, and the loop of the focusing servo to correct and drive the image-forming optical system 3 in a direction in which the error VX is made into a minimum is formed. Next, an absolute value detecting circuit 8 detects an absolute value VPP of the focusing error VX, and a comparator 9 generates an error signal Eout when the detected absolute value VPP exceeds a prescribed reference value VS. By generating timing control signals C1 and C2 at the time of an activation after a power source is applied, a control part 10 starts up the action of the absolute value detecting circuit 8 earlier than that of a focussing servo mechanism 7. Thus, the error of the reproducing or recording can be prevented.
