Abstract

PURPOSE:To keep off any overinput of an inverter circuit while facilitating start lighting by raising the extent of reference voltage in an error amplifier to a voltage detector circuit only at a given period of time after power is ON, in a discharge lamp lighting device using the inverter circuit. CONSTITUTION:Simultaneously with power making, a timer circuit 12 gets starting and a reference voltage to be added to an error amplifier 10 to a volt age detector circuit 5 detecting the load voltage of a discharge lamp 4 comes into the state of a higher side till a switch 11 is selected after a specified period of time by this timer circuit 12, and, frequency of an inverter circuit 3 is con trolled by output of this amplifier 10 to light the discharge lamp. After the elapse of a timer setting, the switch 11 is turned on and the reference voltage is selected to a low voltage. Consequently, at the time of starting, a higher secondary voltage is secured so that easy start lighting takes place, but after that, the secondary voltage is lowered even when a lamp is in the last period of its service life so that input of the inverter circuit will not become excessive, thus circuit parts of the inverter circuit are protected from breakdown.
