Abstract

PURPOSE:To operate an optical switch with low pressure and to eliminate polarization dependency from it, by providing two optical switching devices in an optical path, matching the phases of emitting light with each other, and synthesizing and outputting them. CONSTITUTION:The incident light of an optical signal fiber having polarization is changed to a parallel ray, and is made incident on a prism 1, and is separated and emitted as a TM wave and a TE wave. The TM wave progresses straight, and its phase is deviated by half wavelength at a 1/2-wave plate 4, then, it is changed to the TE wave, and is inputted to the optical switching device 2. Meanwhile, the TE wave emitted in a perpendicular direction by the prism 1 is reflected and converged by an optical transfer means 5, then, inputted to the optical switching device 3. And by sending an ON control signal to the devices 2 and 3, the devices 2 and 3 are turned on. Since the phase matching between the output of the device 3 and that of the device 2 is performed at an optical phase shifter 6, and they are synthesized by a synthesis means 7, and are outputted as output light, it is possible to obtain a signal with a superior extinction ratio.
