Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the mass production of the title alloy by mixing silicon and B2O3 and fusing the mixture with heat in an inert atmosphere or under vacuum. CONSTITUTION:Silicon of high purity and B2O3 of high purity are mixed and fused with heat over the eutectic point of Si-B in an inert atmosphere or under vacuum. Then, the product is gradually cooled down, washed with water to remove off the unreacting B2O3. Thus, high-purity Si-B alloy of up to 20% B content is obtained.
