Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve clear two-color printing with favorable color separation on an ordinary paper through a simple method and alleviate tone restrictions on first and second ink layers, by sequentially providing on a base at least the first ink layer, a hiding layer and the second ink layer in that order from the base side. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer material 1 comprises a first ink layer 3, a hiding layer 4 and a second ink layer 5 sequentially provided on a base 2. It is preferable that the adhesive force F2 between the first ink layer 3 and the second ink layer 5 and the adhesive force F1 between the first ink layer 3 and the base 2 are in the relationship of F1>F2 at high temperatures and in the relationship of F1<F2 at low temperatures. The transfer material 1 is superposed on a recording material 6 so that the second ink layer 5 faces the recording material 6, energy according to an image signal is applied to the transfer material 1, and the base 2 is immediately released from the recording material 6, whereby the second ink layer 5 is selectively transferred onto the recording material 6, and a transfer-recorded image 5a with the tone of the second ink layer 5 can be obtained. When the releasing is conducted after a predetermined period. all of the second ink layer 5, the hiding layer 4 and the first ink layer 3 are transferred, whereby a transfer-recorded image 3a with the tone of the first ink layer 3 can be obtained.
