Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a cermet alloy having excellent wear resistance, strength and chipping resistance by specifying a compsn. consisting of a hard layer having an adequate double-cored structure consisting of TiC, TiN, WC, TaC, and Mo2C and an Fe-group metal bond phase. CONSTITUTION:The cermet alloy is constituted of the hard phase consisting of 10-40wt.% TiC, 5-20% TiN, 10-35% WC, 5-30% TaC, and 1.5-4.5% Mo2C, and 5-30% bond phase of >=1 kinds among Fe group metals. The double carbonitride forming the above-mentioned hard phase of this cermet alloy forms the double-cored structure. This double-cored structure is the structure in which the double carbonitride relatively lean with Ti and rich with W is enclosed by the double carbonitride rich with Ti and this structure is made to exist at 50-95% of the entire hard phase. The cermet alloy which is excellent in the wear resistance and strength at high temp. and in the chipping resistance and is suitable for long-life high-speed cutting tools, etc., is thereby obtd.
