Abstract

PURPOSE:To rationalize and miniaturize the constitution by providing a phase delay member, which reduces the propagation speed of one of a pair of orthogonal electric field components in comparison with that of the other, in a conical electromagnetic horn for microwave. CONSTITUTION:A phase delay member 50 provided in an electromagnetic horn 10 fulfills the same function as the phase delay member only for polarization converter. Consequently, the propagation speed of only one of a pair of orthogonal electric field components propagated in the lengthwise direction in the electromagnetic horn 10 is reduced relatively to that of the other. Therefore, if the length of the horn 10 or the length 50 of the phase delay member 50 stored in the horn is properly selected, a circularly polarized wave made incident on one end of the horn 10 is converted to a linearly polarized wave when passing the horn 10. Consequently, the polarization converter is omitted as a material when an antenna system is constituted. Thus, the constitution is miniaturized.
