Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent rapid temperature change of coolant in an upper plenum after rapid reactor stoppage by enclosing a control rod drive mechanism extension tube and providing a chamber in which the bottom end vertically extended from a reactor core upper mechanism is held a small gap with the top surface of a reactor core vessel. CONSTITUTION:In the normal operation of a fast breeder reactor constant nuclear reaction is produced and coolant is circulated from the upper part to the lower part in a reactor core 2 and so heated. The coolant flowed out from the top 8 of the reactor core 2 flows in an upper plenum 5 through an outlet 14 after it rises in the inner part of a cylindrical shell 13 from a chamber 15.
