PURPOSE:To obtain a large magneto-optical effect by separately providing a layer having no perpendicular anisotropy and layer having good perpendicular anisotropy. CONSTITUTION:A reflecting layer 19 is formed on a nonmagnetic base 15 and an oxide magnetic material layer 13 is formed thereon; further, a ferromagnetic metallic layer 11 consisting of >=1 kinds of metal elements selected from Fe, Co and Ni is formed thereon. The oxide magnetic material layer 13 consists of the ferromagnetic oxide expressed by MeO.n(MaXFe2-XO3), where M is at least one kind of the metal element selected from Ba, Pb, Sr, Ca, and Sc; Ma is 1 or >=2 kinds of metal elements which can be substd. with Fe; (x) is 0<=x<=1, (n) is 5<=n<=6. The large magneto-optical effect (Faraday rotation) is thereby obtd.
