Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve recording sensitivity and carrier level by forming a reflecting layer of an Al alloy contg. Ti. CONSTITUTION:Perpendicularly magnetized films consisting of amorphous magnetic alloys of rare earths and transition metals such as, for example, TbFe, TbFeCo, TbCo, ad DyFeCo and polycrystals such as MnBi and MnCuBi are used as the magneto-optical recording layer. An intermediate layer is provided between a substrate and the magneto-optical recording layer. Metal oxides, metal nitrides, inorg. carbides, etc., are used for said layer. Furthermore, the reflecting film constituted of the Al alloy contg. Ti is provided on the magneto- optical recording layer and the content of Ti is specified to 0.1-20atom.%. As a result, the optimum recording power is largely lowered with substantially no decrease in the carrier level. The recording sensitivity and carrier level are thereby improved.
