Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve damping performance by sensing gaps between a superconducting electromagnet suspended from a building and a pair of superconducting electromagnets erected on a foundation and controlling the polarity and magnetic force of each superconducting electromagnet by the sense signal. CONSTITUTION: A superconducting electromagnet is suspended from the lower bottom surface of a building 2, and a pair of superconducting electromagnets 5 and 5' are erected on a foundation 1 on both sides of the superconducting electromagnet 4 at intervals so as to sandwich it. In addition, a damping device is provided with a control device 6 to sense gaps between the superconducting electromagnets 4, 5, and 5' on the sides of the building 2 and the foundation 1 at the time of earthquakes and to control the polarity and magnetic force of each superconducting electromagnet by the sense signal. By this, as the control device 6 controls the polarities and magnetic forces of the superconducting electromagnets 4, 5, and 5' so as to resist horizontal movements even when the building 2 is horizontally moved by earthquakes, it is possible to damp the vibrations of the building 2 speedily.
