Abstract

PURPOSE:To remarkably improve the life of a trigger gap by forming the trigger gap with multiple electrodes which can be freely switched or connected to a trigger power source. CONSTITUTION:When a pulse voltage is applied between a main electrode 1 and a main electrode 2 facing each other with an insulated space interposed in between in a vacuum vessel 9, discharging occurs between the electrodes 1 and 2, plasma is developed between the electrodes 1 and 2, and a charge stored in condensers 10 and 11 is supplied to line sources on a load side. The electrode 2 is formed with multiple trigger electrodes 6a-6h surrounded with respective insulators 3a-3h for surface discharge and is successively connected to a pulse source 5 via a switch of a switching device 7. With this constitution of the trigger electrodes 8 divided into eight, etc., the life of the vacuum trigger gap is remarkably extended as long as eight times, etc.
