Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an elastomer which has a large restoring force and can be instantaneously restored to its initial shape, by mixing a mixture of a vinyl polymer with an acrylic acid derivative polymer with a gel of these polymers or a gel of a rubber and crosslinking the resulting mixture. CONSTITUTION:A polymer of component (A) based on a vinyl monomer is blended with a polymer of component B based on an acrylic acid derivative or a natural or synthetic rubber. A previously formed gel of a polymer of component A, a polymer of component B or a natural or synthetic rubber is added to 100pts.wt. this blend. A three-dimensional network structure is formed by crosslinking in at least one of the polymer of component A, the polymer of component B and the rubber to obtain the purpose shape memory elastomer. Alternatively a monomer of component A is copolymerized with a monomer of component B, and about 5-60pts.wt. previously formed gel of a copolymer of a monomer of component A with a monomer of component B is added to 100pts.wt. this copolymer. A three-dimensional network structure is formed in it by crosslinking.
