Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain quartz glass without impurities, having high quality by successively heat-oxidizing silicon metal having high purity in multistages with high frequency induction plazma flame and by melting the produced silicon dioxide powder in the flame. CONSTITUTION:The raw material, silicon metal having high purity is introduced into an upper plazma torch 2 through a raw material chute 5 and pre-oxidized in the high frequency induction plazma flame to produce fine SiO2 powder. Successively, the fine SiO2 powder is introduced into a lower plazma torch 3 to melt and sufficiently oxidize. Thereafter, the molten SiO2 glass fine powder is supplied on a target 6 to produce quartz glass body 15. By this process, the quartz glass without impurities such as metal impurity, moisture, Cl2, having excellent optical characteristic can be produced.
