Abstract

PURPOSE:To aim at decreasing the floor area for installation and at preventing a stack of sheets of a printed book from being disordered, by providing suck an arrangement that the upper surface of a printed book on a lifter table is elevated and a sorting pin is inserted during supply of the printed book to a punching machine, and by inserting a conveyer into a gap which is formed below the lower surface of the pin by slightly lowering the table lifter. CONSTITUTION:A table lifter 11 is operated to elevate a printed book W, and when a height detecting means 60 such as a photoelectric tube or the like, detects the upper surface of the printed book, the elevation of the book is stopped. Then a sorting pin 12 is advanced and inserted into a stack of sheets of the printed book W. At this time, the insertion position of the pin 12 or the distance measured from the upper surface of the book indicates the thickness of the book to be fed into a punching machine which is not shown, and is set to a thickness with which the punching machine can punch the book. This position can be optionally adjusted in accordance with a variation in the attaching position of the detecting means 6. The printed book is loaded on a pallet 7 obliquely so as to allow the pin 12 to face one corner of the book. After insertion of the pin 12, the book W is slightly lowered by the lifter 11 so as to form a gap C for receiving a conveyer 13 below the pin 12. Further, the conveyer 13 is advanced and inserted into the gap 13, and is stopped being made into contact with a stopper at one end of a rail extension which is not shown.
