Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a good thermoformable molded item of a complicated shape with good dimensional accuracy and good appearance, by making cell diameter in a foamed layer forming a skin layer to be large, and specifying the ratio of the average cell diameter of the skin layer to that of a non-skin layer in TD. CONSTITUTION:A polystyrene resin sheet where higher fatty acid metal salt is dispersed and compounded is prepared. The average cell diameter in a part which is 1/20-1/50 of total thickness of the sheet from at least one face of the upper or lower face of this sheet in the extrusion direction (MD) is (a) and the average cell diameter in the horizontally perpendicular direction (TD) to the above described direction is (b). When the average cell diameters in MD and TD in the part except the above described part are (a') and (b') respectively, both a:a' and b:b' are in the range of 1:1-1:5. The cell diameter formed on the surface in the skin layer is relatively larger than the cell diameter of the skin layer formed by the conventional surface rapid cooling technique. Therefore, after thermoforming, very fine cell diameter (the average cell diameters in MD and TD are 0.05mm or less) is attained and excellent appearance of a thermoformed product can be obtained.
