Abstract

PURPOSE:To grind the surface of a workpiece with high accuracy by forming the edges of the end faces of an abrasive grain layer into cutting edges which are inclined to a rotating direction and intermittently cutting into the workpiece. CONSTITUTION:The outer peripheral face of an abrasive grain layer 4 has the surface shape of a cylinder while both end faces thereof are inclined at a certain angle alpha to a rotary shaft 2. And, a grinding wheel 1 is rotated around the rotary shaft 2 with the outer peripheral face of this abrasive grain layer 4 kept in contact with a workpiece W. At the same time, the rotary shaft 2 is moved along its axis at a moving speed less than the minimum width A in the axial direction of the abrasive grain layer 4 per one rotation. Thus, the surface of the workpiece can be ground with high accuracy without leaving the mark of lines by means of the edges of the end faces of the abrasive grain layer 4 which is rotatingly moved.
