Abstract

PURPOSE:To aim at enhancing the suction efficiency of a pump by projecting the forward end cylindrical section of a suction tube forming a pump suction port, into a bypass passage so as to allow an excessive flow through the bypass passage to flow down in the axial direction of the suction tube. CONSTITUTION:A suction chamber 9 is formed between the upper inner wall of a pump housing 1 and a cam ring 5, and a pressure chamber 10 is formed between the cam ring 5 and the rear surface of a pressure plate 8. The suction chamber 9 is connected to the pressure chamber 10 through a passage 11, a recirculating port 12 and a bypass passage 13 having an intermediate section communicated with a pump suction port 15. In this arrangement, the forward end cylindrical part 21 of a suction tube 20 which forms the pump suction port 20 is projected into the bypass passage 13. Accordingly, an excessive flow through the bypass passage 13 is allowed to flow down along the outer periphery of the forward end cylindrical part 21 in the axial direction of the suction tube 20.
