Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to keep fuel pressure in an accumulator at a fixed value by interlocking an input shaft of a fuel injection pump having the accumulator with an engine output shaft through a continuously variable transmission, and controlling the transmission according to the fuel pressure in the accumulator. CONSTITUTION:An in-line fuel injection pump 2 has its input shaft 9 interlockingly connected to an engine output shaft 7 through a belt-type continuously variable transmission 12, and fuel oil discharged from the pump 2 is dividedly supplied to each fuel injection valve 1 through an accumulator 3. The continuously variable transmission 12 performs speed changing action by bringing a movable pulley 10b of a driven pulley 10 into contact with a steady pulley 10a and separating the pulley 10b from it through a pulley shifting device 10c to change the effective diameter of the driven pulley 10 for speed changing. In this case, the pulley shifting device 10c is controlled through a controller 14, for example, when fuel pressure in the accumulator 3 has lowered, to decrease the effective diameter of the driven pulley 10 for an increase in the number of revolutions of the injection pump 2.
