Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve signal angle characteristic and response speed of a liquid crystal display element by using a film contg. a polymer of a specified aromatic polyetheramide as an orientation control film after heat-treating the film at >=the glass transition temp. of the polymer after rubbing. CONSTITUTION:An orientation control film of a liquid crystal display element is constituted of a film contg. a polymer of an aromatic polyetheramide obtd. by a reaction of an aromatic diamine expressed by the formula with an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and/or a reactive deriv. of the dicarboxylic acid and heat-treating the film at >= glass transition temp. of the polymer after rubbing. In the formulas, each R1-R4 is H, lower alkyl, etc., independently; X is a joint, -O-, -S-, etc.; Ar is p-phenylene, m-phenylene, etc. By this constitution, visual angle characteristic or response speed are improved.
