Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal display device having a liquid crystal orientation control film which allows a low-temp. heating treatment, can prevent an induced domain and has a good holding characteristic of a liquid crystal by using solvent soluble polyimide which exhibits excellent solubility with general org. solvents as the liquid crystal orientation control film. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal orientation control film of a liquid crystal display device provided with the liquid crystal orientation control film is constituted of the solvent soluble polyimide contg. 0.1-99mol.% repeating structural unit expressed by formula I (in formula I, Ar is a tetravalent org. group; X is a direct bond, -O-, -CO, or -SO2) and 99.9-1mol.% repeating structural unit expressed by formula II (in formula II, Ar is a tetravalent org. group; Z is a divalent org. group). Since this polyimide exhibits the excellent solubility in the general org. solvents, the polyimide film can be formed by the heating treatment at about 150 deg.C without giving rise to problems in safety and sanitation. The induced domain generated by a change in the resistance of a transparent conductive film is not admitted and the reliability is improved.
