Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase filling density of oxide pellets and to improve critical current density by sheathing the oxide pellets with a metallic pipe and plastic- forming the metallic pipe under the condition of the oxide pellets being contained inside the pipe by means of compression stresses.
CONSTITUTION: Oxide pellets 1 of superconductivity and of a composition expressed by a general formula (A1-xBx)2CO4-y with an element of the lanthanide series, an element in the Ib group in the periodic table of the elements, etc., are sheathed with a metallic pipe 2. Plastic forming of mainly compression stresses is applied to the metallic pipe 2 under the condition of the oxide pellets 1 being contained inside the metallic pipe 1. As the material for the metallic pipe 2, materials capable of standing the plastic forming such as copper, aluminum, etc., are used. Reducing the diameter of the metallic pipe through the plastic forming, filling density of the oxide pellets is increased, rate of C-axes of crystals being in parallel with the axial direction of a wire is increased, and critical current density is improved.
