Abstract

CONSTITUTION: Two glass substrates have electrode groups coated with dielectrics; the electrode groups face each other, the respective electrodes cross each other, and their intersections are light emission points of display. A pulse voltage V0 is applied to the scanning electrodes of the n-th row for an H period with a horizontal synchronizing signal and a pulse voltage V1 is applied to the data-side electrodes of the n-th column, so that the discharge cells ((n) rows and (n) columns) are discharged with the voltage V0 +V1 . In a next H period, the scanning electrodes of an (n+1)th row are selected and similar operation is repeated. At this time, a high-frequency pulse is applied to the electrodes of the n-th row and the cells which are discharged in the address state continue to be discharged. The discharging is held even after the address state, so the luminance is greatly improved.
