Abstract
PURPOSE:To completely prevent the generation of hydrogen from an aluminum case by providing a corrosion resistant oxide film or coated film for preventing the oxidation of aluminum on the inside surface of the case. CONSTITUTION:The oxidation of the case 1 made of Al or Al alloy of this connecting box is prevented by providing the corrosion resistant oxide film or the coated film 13 for preventing the oxidation of Al on at least the inside surface of the case in order to eliminate the deterioration in the transmission characteristic of a glass core optical fiber by hydrogen. The contact of the Al of the case material and the moisture in the air in the case or the condensed water drops thereof is prevented by the above-mentioned film or coated film 3 and, therefore, the chemical reaction of the Al case and water is prevented and the amt. of the hydrogen to be generated from the case is decreased to zero. The increase in the transmission loss by hydrogen is, therefore, minimized to a negligible level and the stable light transmission characteristic is maintained for a long period of time.
