Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an artificial erythrocyte having increased quantity of carried oxygen without requiring consideration of blood type in blood transfusion, by incorporating a hemoglobin solution containing an allosteric factor dissolved therein into a liposome. CONSTITUTION:An artificial erythrocyte obtained by adding inositol hexaphosphate which is one of allosteric factors to a hemoglobin solution free of erythrocytic membrane and converting the inositol hexaphosphate into a liposome. The concentration of the hemoglobin solution is preferably 30-60% (wt./wt.) and liposome membrane preferably consists essentially of hydrogenated phospholipid with >=50% hydrogenation ratio. The inositol hexaphosphate is used at 0.8-2 molar ratio based on the hemoglobin. Since the inositol hexaphosphate will not pass through the liposome membrane, the concentration of the inositol hexaphosphate based on the hemoglobin is kept at a constant value to enhance oxygen releasing ability.
