Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain high-density MgCr2O4-TiO1.5-2 based ceramic having improved sintering properties of MgCr2O4, by blending MgCr2O4 with a titania component. CONSTITUTION:High-density MgCr2O4-TiO1.5-2 based ceramic consisting of reduction reaction sintered material having a composition of 85-40mol.% MgCr2 O4 and 15-60mol.% TiO1.5-2 and at least 90% relative density. The MgCr2O4- TiO1.5-2 based ceramic can be obtained by the following method. Namely, a raw material mixture of MgCr2O4 base and TiO2 base selected from MgCr2O4- TiO1.5-2 based ceramic and at least one precursor thereof is reduced and burnt under <=10<-6>atm. oxygen partial pressure or in a carbon reducing atmosphere. MgCr2O7, MgTiO3, MgO, Mg(OH)2, MgCO3, CrO3, Cr2O3, Cr(OH)3 or TiOOH may be cited as the precursor.
